In fact, while we love to get excited about the benefits of the latest tech (and SSDs do carry many), we realise that there are still advantages for the humble hard disk
Despite its sluggish performance, the F2 does have a last ace up its sleeve: its price. At around £73, you're paying just less than 5p/GB, the same as the faster but less capacious 1TB Spinpoint F1. As we've already mentioned, this is around £10 less...

The HD103UJ that we're testing contains three 334 GB platters, a total of 1002 GB. Things are different in practice, and after formatting the drive as an NTFS under Windows Vista, the actual capacity was 931.5 GB.
Good read and write sppeds ; Quiet ; Access time just 13.8 ms ; Noie management
Noisier than a 5400 rpm drive
This is one of our favourite hard drives. It combines high speeds and low access times with an acceptable noise level. It's hard to find a better compromise.

The notebook gets only slightly warmer at the top side and the temperature should reach only a little more than 30°C. At the bottom side the highest temperature was reached at the left back side, however, a temperature of estimated below 40°C is yet...

Forsakes performance in favour of reduced power
The slow spin rate does at least keep the noise down. Although the EcoGreen F2 isn’t as whisper-quiet as Western Digital’s Caviar Green drives, the soft clicks it makes while seeking are easily tolerable. And a price of 8.8c/GB is easy to swallow. All...

The Samsung P80 has been our top recommendation for a quiet 3.5" drive for quite some time, but it's showing its age. The new P120 series offers higher areal density and capacity, both of which translate to higher performance. Does the P120 retain the...
Predictably, our impression of the P120 series has not changed: It's still our top pick for a desktop drive with more capacity than the earlier Samsung P80s can deliver

I bought this as an replacement hard drive for my 80G PS3. This is a 2.5 inch Sata drive so I was brave enough to buy it although I had some hesitations since it doesn't say it is PS3 compatible. The hard drive came well packed (anti static bag in...

The hard drive arrived quickly and was really easy to use. It is comes with its own case and is the size of a small smart phone. Just plugged into to my laptop and I was able to copy things straight on to it.

Excellent product...seems robust and easy to use, silent in operation and the 'grippy' surface on the rear of the device is a nice touch. The 'software bundled' instructions seemed a bit of a mystery at first...but using the copy/paste 'Removable Disk...

Straightforward installation with Windows Vista and works as it should. It doesn't have any fancy backup software, but not a problem for me as I generally find these more bother than they are worth. Good value product can be recommended without...

I bought one to use as a TV recorder and it worked immediately straight out of the box. It has recorded HDTV no problems at all and I have now bought a second one to back up my computers.

I had originally purchased two of the 500Gb version more than a year ago, one for my personal use and the second for a close relative. Both drives have been in constant use ever since to transport data from one PC to another or from location to...

I have used a number of external drives but this one is the best yet. Comes with pouch to protect the device and looks great. I've had no access problems and works very reliably.
