Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall 50

  by Dave Mitchell (trustedreviews.com) - Mar, 2006

trustedreviews.com

Netgear is known for its consumer products but its ProSafe VPN Firewall 50 aims at providing a little bit extra for businesses.

This little router offers plenty of security features which include WAN failover, Internet traffic controls and optional anti-virus enforcement. However, on closer inspection a number of features don't look so sophisticated, the Trend Micro option will...

NetGear ProSafe FVS338/FVX538 VPN firewalls

  by David Cartwright (techworld.com) - Oct, 2005

techworld.com

Don't be wowed by the UTM hype. Any perimeter security device still has to work as a firewall, regardless of how many fancy bells it has attached.

I've said it already, but I'll say it again: the UTM label (specifically the Trend integration) is merely a nice-to-have; these are excellent units even if you don't turn on the spam/AV stuff.

Review: Netgear DGFV338 Wireless ADSL Modem Router with 8 Port 10/100 Switch and Firewall

  by Iain Laskey (practicalpc.co.uk)

practicalpc.co.uk

Iain Laskey looks at Netgear's small business class ADSL Modem Router and is impressed

Fast, reliable, well built. Huge range of features, very flexible

Constant hum, no gigabit ports, needs Netgear's own VPN client

Overall we were impressed with the Netgear DGFV338. It offers a lot of features for the price and is well built. The flexibility will allow it to work in pretty much any environment and our only real gripes, the hum, VPN clients and lack of Gigabit...

Netgear ProSafe: DGFV338 i FVX538

  by Kamil Folga (networld.pl) - Dec, 2007

networld.pl

Really well designed kit

  by W. Faulkner (amazon.co.uk) - Jul, 2009

Really well designed kit

I have nothing but praise for this product, by far the best piece of kit I've used as a Home Router, be advised that you need a dumb DSL Modem, such as the Dray Tech Vigor 110 which I use, otherwise it won't be able to have direct control of the DSL...

FVS338 a solid product !

When given the challenge to find a well priced small business firewall/router I quickly homed in on the Netgear Prosafe range. This offered good value and a LIFETIME warranty ! The firewall range offered exactly what I was after, the main decision...

Excellent Product

  by MISK (ebuyer.com) - Jun, 2008

ebuyer.com

I purchased one of these around 2 months ago after having trouble and limited use with the FVS114 (constant lockups). I think the FVS338 is an excellent product, easy to setup, very reliable and at a good price. Its a big step up from the FVS114, the...

Not ProSafe !!!

  by radef (cnet.com) - Apr, 2008

cnet.com

Requires frequent re-boots. Lower cost consumer grade routers are more reliable than this unit! True ProSafe should have excelent out of the box quality (should work) and not require additional trips to customer site because of defective hardware....

Look and feal matches the price tag

Not a bad little unit

  by funhouse69 (cnet.com) - Feb, 2008

If you are looking for a good firewall to use with your high-speed fiber connection like FIOS then this is the one you want. I get a rock solid 20Mb Sec in and out of the unit. It tests out at a Max of 60Mb / Sec even though they state 90Mb which is...

Inexpensive and decent perfomance & Lifetime Warranty

Buggy at first but new firmware is stable

  by dwightd1 (cnet.com) - Jun, 2005

cnet.com

I use these routers for my small business customers and rarely if ever have any connection issues or service calls because of a down network.

Easy to use and setup, VPN is rock solid. I use Shrewsoft IPSEC client which is free as the Safenet client doesn't seem to work very well

Safenet client sucks and is not Vista 64 bit compliant

Any rating less than a 1?

  by vforvic (cnet.com) - Jun, 2005

There is not much you can say about this pathetic unit except it does not work. It has too many bugs to list. Check out the Netgear user forums on Netgear.com and you will see nothing but problems with this unit and Netgears current support state...

It would be great if it worked at all

Everything from support to the unit itself
