I agree that with some of the others that it doesn't seem like the most rugged drive, but overall it works.
We have one of these at work. So far it does the job. Powering the drive via the 1394 is very convenient
I wish it had more than 320 GB

I use this hard drive to store video I shoot while on the road. I like the rugged rubber case. Haven't dropped it yet, but I'm confident it'll survive if I do. Very easy to set up and use.

It sometimes stores data
It doesn't work over all USB ports. It seems like it doesn't function if you are plugging it into a USB port that is not directly conected to the mother board. Perhaps they can't provid the necessary power for the unit? Sometimes it randomly "ejects"...

As a full-time computer programmer and a full-time animation student, file transfer speed and portability of large video files is a priority. This LaCie hard drive is ideal for cross-platform usage and also for its durability. I don't worry about this...

Kind of nice design
I barely got to use this hard drive before it failed. Didn't take any rough falls, the worst I subjected it to was several months in my backpack traveling from home to school. Didn't use it much, but at some point I needed more space than my flash...

I am an impossible music buff. Any kind of music is welcome to my ears and have scores of them stored. Probably this led me to the LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 320 GB Portable Hard Drive 301833. Opted for the 320 GB when there was a 500 GB available...
My device needs a power adapter. Had it been USB-powered, it would have been better

For the amount of space, the module could be MUCH smaller. Overall quality could be increased, and the ports for the firewire, usb plugs, could be altered. The overall quality is good if you hardly use it, otherwise, DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!
Its an external portable HD with firewire 400/800. Rugged Appearance
After about a years work as a photographer, I'd say with moderate to high use, the thing is TERRIBLE! I have an older 250gb and it constantly ejects itself. No reason why it should at all

extremely portable, love the orage 'grip
not really very rugged.. the case feels lightweight and fairly cheap.. the only 'rugged' bit is a rubber grip around the edges of the case. seems like it would cushion a fall a bit but i wouldn't recommend it for regular outdoor use

Great and easy to use. I store all my movies on this and it has yet to fail me. Transfer speeds on USB are good and the design although not the sleekest is very durable, had this for about a year now and it has not failed me yet.

Hard drive review
It seemed great at first but then it began to freeze and at times when I plugged it in to the computer,it took a while for the computer to detect it. It also takes forever to eject in windows and for Mac computers it has very little memory, I don't...
