Inexpensive and easy

Inexpensive and easy

Very simple to use and works perfectly. I bought two of these to replace Belkin automatic switches which were a nightmare as, randomly, I had to disconnect the switch before the PC would boot. No problems at all with the Avocent.

Works, but issues with wirless mouse/keyboard

Works, but issues with wirless mouse/keyboard

This unit switches the monitor fine, but I have a wireless mouse/keyboard set which uses a single USB. My (Windows7) machine will not recognise the mouse or keyboard through this unit, although it works fine with a wired mouse and keyboard. I need...

It just gets on with the job...

It just gets on with the job...

I use this unit to provide KVM switching between my desktop PC and my Small Business 2003 server, thereby saving me a lot of desk space. Switching between the two computers is easy via the keyboard and is fast. Given the price it has paid for itself...

Easy to setup, and well laid out

It's expensive for what it does - it's just a switch

Avocent 4SVDVI10 201

Easy to setup ; Works with Belkin Cables which I had already purchased, then Belkin discontinued their 4 port DVI KVM, so chose this one instead

You need to be switched to the compuer that is booting, until boot completes, otherwise I've found you don't get a display on the DVI output of the graphics card, it's on the 15pin connector. Haven't tried Dual DVI card yet with this product

It is worth the money!!!

Loved it so much I bought a used two-switch for the house and use the 4 switch on four computers in office

this thing works ... it has an external power source to make sure things are properly powered, the cables keep things to a minimum by piggybacking ps.2 signal on one of the monitor pins, you can switch manually or using hotkeys, and your monitor will...

you will have to adjust your refresh rate on some pc/monitor combos, and possibly adjust your mouse acceleration... once you have done that, you are set ... some cheaper monitors might look a bit different than before, but my better monitors show...

Great features; lots of problems

  by MannionGeo (newegg.com) - Dec, 2009

Let me condense 15 months of product ownership, 5 months of active technical support cases, 3 RMAs, and 30 emails/phone calls with Avocent techncial support into less than 1,000 characters. 1. This switch has great features: DVI/USB, 4 ports, high...

Small size ; Fast switching - when it works ; Hot key support - when it works ; Upgradeable firmware - when it's available (which it is, finally)

Doesn't support many video cards ; Poor quality, despite sturdy-looking unit ; Expensive for switch w/o cables (though its best to get your own cables, anyway, for length and cost) ; Disruptive switch reboot/reset procedure that requires unplugging all...

partially great

Newegg packaging process is among the worst I've seen. They shipped the switch in its oem/bulk box thrown into another larger shipping box with a few scraps of paper/cardboard-like filler on top of it. The box got damaged during shipping (corners bent...

Nice spacious layout for cabling. Stable counterweight against cable connection (won't tip over). Video and km switching works well with wired devices (I have an MS 4000 kbd and MS lasermouse 6000). I don't have high grade video cards (see cons) but...

3 of 6 PCI-E video cards in my posession don't work with this KVM. A gigabyte 7600GS, gigabyte 8600gs and a pny 7600gs. Each of these cards have a VGA connector that works well when plugged into the Switchview USB VGA kvm (what this product replaces)...

Its almost there.....

I have a Microsoft wireless combo set that does not work with this KVM (wireless laser 5000). Be sure to check before you buy. I'm getting by using the passthrough USB ports - those work but key commands to the KVM are disabled (I have to use the...

Quality construction, solid box, works with 1900x1200 LCDs. Tech support was helpful once contact was finally initiated. Upgradeable firmware

Does not currently work with my keyboard mouse combo. Online troubleshooter doesnt work with IE7. Tech support took a long time for initial response. Waited on support hold for 30+ mins before hanging up. All of these together meant I had no help when...

Works

Much thanks to the other reviewer for the tip about plugging your mouse into the USB hub port; it works like a charm. I've got control of my buttons back, and motion is much smoother.

Does what it claims. Works great on my 19" LCD

Expensive and no cables
