ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 Sound Card

Superb clarity and fidelity ; Great performance for music and movies ; Low-profile design provides flexibility ; Affordable

Hit-or-miss gaming performance ; Requires external power supply

From my testing, it's clear to see that ASUS' Xonar DX pushes the performance envelope for a value-oriented card, offering most but not all of the performance of the audiophile-quality Xonar D2 and D2X cards - call it Xonar Lite, if you will. ASUS has...

Asus' Xonar DX sound card

  by Geoff Gasior (techreport.com) - Apr, 2008

Award: EDITOR'S CHOICE

I used to date a girl who was a little obsessive about what she ate. At every opportunity, she would buy fat-free, low-calorie, or otherwise diet derivatives of common food items. Now there's nothing wrong with foods that are naturally fat-free or...

Asus put the Xonar on a diet for this latest DX version, dropping plenty of weight to squeeze it onto a low-profile card that retails for half the price of the more expensive D2X model. Some of the original Xonar's flashier features didn't survive,...

Good sound, poor installation

I bought this sound card because I found the onboard sound on my Gigabyte EX58-UD3R motherboard, whilst being fairly clear, was not loud enough in some of the games I was playing and lacked punch. I searched the internet and this seems to be a problem...

ASUS Xonar DX/XD - Sound card

Affordable card to provide good quality sound - much clearer sound comparing to integrated ALC888 codec. Also nice features of voice changing and equalizer in card's control panel. Works in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system without problems. Recommended...

Highly recomended for vista

Excellent upgrade! Beyond belief sound, even from MP3

  by zimmer50 (cnet.com) - Dec, 2010

My Home Theater setup is: Onkyo 705 receiver, Sony BDP-370S blu-ray, Oppo universal CD player, HSU subwoofer, JMlab (now Focal) Chorus 715 front/center, with Wharfdale surrounds. Computer is a standard HP Asus operated with massive hard drives....

MP3's play at CD quality or better. FLAC files are superior to any disc format I have used. Set up very straight forward. No problems with physical installation or feature programing. Power cable not a problem. Didn't even need the included adapter

On initial setup received a hum (feedback?) from front speaker when no devices were active or on--ie. when just using computer. Today, no hum or other feedback under any conditions

Asus Xonar DX Sound Card

  by (pcworld.com) - Oct, 2009

With a reasonably recent alsa, it is completely painless with linux -- microphone, aux input, even 7.1 sound works right out of the box. Low profile so it uses a PCI express slot between my SLI nvidia cards. Great performance for the price.

Works with linux. 7.1 sound. Low profile

Specs not as good as the more expensive Xonar D2X

I was replacing my Sondigo Inferno sound card with this sound card. I was only doing that because I wanted the front audio port connection that this card has. This card uses the same Cmedia 8788 Oxygen chip that my Sondigo sound card used. When I first...

Excellent sound quality with plenty of volume. It also supports up to EAX5.0 emulation for some games. Front audio connection

Not all games apparently work yet with the emulation

Asus Xonar DX Sound Card

  by crontab (pcworld.com) - Oct, 2008

I was tired of the background noise that my on-board (realtek) sound was generating. The front panel port was horrible. I had a low budget and didn't want another creative card since I don't like all the bloatware that comes with creative drivers, let...

Absolute crystal clear sound, low profile card (with low-profile bracket) for HTPC's, good front panel audio, vista support, working non-bloated drivers, Cirrus Logic Oxygen HD chip

Requirement for more power, comes with molex-floppy adapter. The Front Panel audio is not auto-detected on plug-in. You have to manually go to the settings and choose FP speakers. Somewhat annoying
